Stilman White Fakes and GT Defender Falls to Floor

Stilman White, Tar Heel freshman backup PG, was not expected to be a big game-time contributor this season. He is still a bit undersized for this level and, of course, inexperienced as well. But I must say that in some ways, White has exceeded my expectations already.

White pushes the ball up the court on the dribble more quickly than superb-passing PG, Kendall Marshall, and better than the previous starting PG, Larry Drew II. White has also taken good care of the basketball thus far in his limited playing time. And although the data sample is still small, it appears that White can be counted on to knock down the open shot reasonably well.

Since Dexter Strickland’s season was cut short due to a torn ACL in his right knee, White has been asked to step into the backup PG role and spell Kendall Marshall when needed. Prior, almost all of White’s minutes came when the Tar Heels already had the outcome of the game in hand. Tar Heels are rooting for the young man to succeed.

Against Georgia Tech in Chapel Hill on January 29th, White had a highlight that he can have fun showing his grandchildren someday. Watch the reaction of the GT defender as White gives a little head fake with an in-out dribble and then drains the 3. Enjoy!

Julius Randle: North Carolina Blue Is a Beautiful Color

Crafty point guard, Nate Britt, has been a fan of UNC since he watched Raymond Felton and Sean May play as Tar Heels. Felton was the heart and soul of the 2005 National Championship team, and Sean May — a big man with possibly the best set of hands on a basketball player that I’ve ever seen — played spectacularly in the 2005 NCAA tournament.

Julius Randle, now the top player in the 2012 high school class and a versatile big man, is Roy Williams’s top target in that class. Unfortunately, he is also a top target of many of the best programs in the country — including Carolina’s rival, Duke.
